Do you know a teenager who is making a profound difference in his or her community? Do you know a principal or teacher who has taken steps to deter the violence that is devastating Chicago neighborhoods and schools? If so, we want to know about them.

In a city where violence and tragedy dominate the news, the stories of “heroes” often go unheard. Heroes in the ‘Hood/Stop the Violence, programs that recognize and honor Chicago teens and their mentors for making a positive difference in their communities, wants to change that! Nominations for the 2012 Heroes in the Hood Awards are now open. Applications are being accepted from October 7, 2011 through March 17, 2012.
